The documentary: “Coming Back For More” about Sly Stone won the audience award at the international biography film festival on the 14th of june in Italy. The film made by dutchman Willem Alkema was not selected for a jury price but the audience was clear, quoting:
“ an increadible experience of a mixture of blackploitation, detectivefilm and documentary all mixed in a biography...I have never seen something before”
Alkema left the festival before the Award gala, therefore the famous american top producer and documentary maker John Scheinfield who just released a film about John Lennon: the Us vs John Lennon, received the award in name of Willem Alkema.
Scheinfield was happy to mention the audience recognised the importancy of the film about the reclused popstar Sly Stone.
Sly was the highlight of the Woodstock festival, his succes was during the late sixties and early seventies. In the 80's he dissapeared and no one could find him. “Coming Back For More” is about the search for the legend. Instead of other filmmakers and muscians like Prince, Alkema was able to find Sly Stone and film the first interview over more then 20 years.
